Day 600: Field trip, literally!

Time for a field trip!
Literally!

I asked Marilyn if she was free...
and off we went ...

an hour drive ...
down the coast
to Carlsbad.
There, all of sudden ...
A popular destination
in March especially ...
to see the 50 acres ...
of ranunculus in bloom.
All while overlooking
the beautiful Pacific!

We started out with a tractor ride ...

Thanks to the tractor tour, we learned that the
ranunculus has three different leaves ...
strawberry-type leaves at the base.
celery-type leaves in the middle,
and parsley-type leaves at the top! Cool?

These photos don't do justice to the beauty of the fields.

And, there are so many other beautiful flowers ...

breathtaking eye candy.

And in the aviary ...

Mama dove sitting on her eggs.

A whole pavilion of poinsettia varieties ...

and succulents galore.

And yes, I did complete the sweet pea maze,
surely setting a new record for my age division!

A pavilion of cymbidium orchids.

And scattered throughout, unique birdhouses.

A great field trip.

A smile for Tuesday ...
